Coal is often cleaned or washed at the coal mine to remove impurities before it is transported to the power plant—usually by train, barge, or truck. At the power plant, coal is commonly burned in a boiler to produce steam. The steam is run through a turbine to generate electricity.



Founded in November, 1984 by Ralph K. Shelton, Southeast Fuels, Inc. (S.F.) is a marketer and seller of energy products headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Southeast Fuels is one of only a few minority-owned coal marketing companies servicing the eastern region of the U.S.  We support industrial and utility users of fuel combustion products such as coal, fuel oil and natural gas.
